These Amazing Colours

Snapshots around and about my beautiful neighbourhood in between the heavy rain and blustery wind.

I always find that a little walk lifts my spirits and makes me smile.  Hope you had a great weekend.

Monday Morning Coffee

What a better way to start the week….I packed the kids off to school and kindergarden, did a few jobs and then took a quiet moment with a nice pot of Pomeroy’s ‘Toxic Soul’ and a notebook (to make some plans for this week.)

Yesterday I found a little time to make our coffee pot this warm and cosy jacket. I used a great tutorial from my lovely friend at  tinyhappy – though I adapted it a little because my pot has a slightly different handle. My ageing sewing machine was a bit unhappy about top stitching through this many layers but we got there.

I used my kitchen scales cotton/linen fabric for the front, together with some gingham lining and odd buttons (from the stash), small lengths of elastic and part of an old felted wooly jumper for insulation.

I hope you have a happy start this week too.

Things I love about Autumn…..

It’s hard not to feel a bit sad once the summer starts to fade. But instead of getting down, I’ve said ‘Goodbye Summer. See you next year. Thank you for all the lovely times’ …and then had a think about the things I am really enjoying now that autumn is here ….

in no particular order…..

  • Kicking dry crunchy leaves whilst walking along.
  • Fantails busy doing their thing  in our garden.
  • Also in the garden – yummy Feijoas are ready.
  • Making soup. Actually I love cooking anything in one pot!
  • Lots of kids (young and old) meeting up at our house to hang out and play hide and seek, as well as other games they make up – like the ones they call ‘crazy bacon’  and ‘ninjas on the tramp(oline)’!
  • Changing light, warm colours & a gentler sun.
  • Walking along the beach on a breezy day.
  • Knitting  small things for our family in readiness for colder days ahead – last year it was hats all round, this year; finger-less mittens.
  • Everyone helping to stack a big delivery of wood and making up a fire in the evenings.
  • Reading a few more books and doing other indoor pursuits –  like jigsaw puzzles, baking, watching DVD’s, getting the paints out, making play dough, table-football tournaments, clearing out some cupboards….
  • Sitting on the verandah with a friend and a cup of tea .
  • Slowing down.

What’s on your list? I hope you are enjoying autumn too – or loving spring if you are in the northern hemisphere.

Blue & White

A little while ago I mentioned I would try an alternate colour for my Patchwork/Cheater cloth fabrics. And its done!

Fresh and clean blues, with a touch of white, turquoise, jade, lime and grey.

Just right to brighten up our little coffee table on an overcast autumn day.

..and perfect teamed up with some of these Japanese Anemones that are growing in our garden at the moment.

Hope you are having a lovely week.

Kitchen Crafty – progress report

Morning.  Just wanted to let you know that some of the kitchen crafty fabrics are on their way so you won’t have to wait too much longer to see them.

Because I’m  in the trial stages, the project is evolving along three different directions. One surprising off-shoot emerging is…..

Kids Kitchen Crafty!

I’m always really inspired by how all three of our kids like to cook – more specifically, how they love to bake. A few years ago, their lovely grandma gave them one of these each for Christmas. Aren’t they great? They have little tummy buttons, bottoms, hands and feet.

So I did a bit of doodling and came up with a whole cast of cooking friends – here are some of them.

And some fun combinations colours too….

These are now being printed into what I hope will work out to be kids’ apron sewing kits – it’s very exciting. Have a great day!

Blue Evening Sky

One of our neighbours keeps homing pigeons.  They come out everyday, circle around to excercise and are a wonder to watch.

Why don’t they just fly away? I guess they  must really feel at home here.

I do too.

It’s taken quite a few years of slightly nomadic living to realise that we can make anywhere our home as long as we feel settled in our hearts.

Hope you’ve had a very happy weekend and that Monday brings you something wonderful.

TWENTY ELEVEN

Happy New Year! I’m looking forward to seeing this year unfold. I hope you are too.

I usually have some New years resolutions in mind round about now – affirmative ones that I can actually stick to and gain something positive from. Last year’s went quite well, but this year I am going to be a bit carefree and try something else.

So I’ve been having a think, a little evaluation, a bit of mulling over what I’d like to enjoy, achieve, learn and do this year. Then headed over to wordle  for  little play. I am a very visual person; I’m not terribly good with words – but this was fun and the result is going to inspire me as we start the year again.

Designed By Kids….

Here are the fabrics that our kids had a little hand in.

I wrote about this mini project a couple of posts ago…..

….and the first samples arrived in the mail yesterday….

This little one is pretty pleased with how it has turned out. He’s been enjoying the process.

Just a couple of adjustments to make here and there, so we can order some lengths to make into something for their bedrooms.

Hope you are having a relaxed week.
